Bridges, Local Streets and Roads
Kentucky's local road, highway and bridge network includes a total of 80,000 miles of roadway on major highways and interstates, rural secondary roads, county roads, municipal roads, and nearly 14,000 bridges.
This extensive road network connects Kentucky's citizens to a variety of life enhancing opportunities including education, employment, health care, social services, and retail facilities.
The road network also provides opportunities for Kentucky's industrial, agricultural, and commercial entities who utilize the transportation network to move freight in a timely and efficient manner.
Kentucky's local road, highway, and bridge network must be continually improved, enhanced, and maintained. Funding for maintenance, improvements, and enhancements is derived primarily from fees collected from users of the road and highway network.
