What Is KBT Currently Emphasizing?

Kentucky’s transportation facilities are a major asset in making the state a good place to live and to do business. Making needed improvements are a sound investment in the state’s economic future:
  • The Interstate highway system, the state’s parkways and other major arterial highways must be maintained and expanded as needed to keep pace with the traffic growth.
  • Communities must have adequate linkage to an Interstate highway or parkway.
  • The transportation system must be safer for the movement of people, products, and services.
  • Streets and highways in urban areas where traffic congestion is a significant problem must be improved to meet traffic demands.
  • Communities must have good access to well-maintained airports with adequate lighting systems and navigation aids.
  • The state must provide an interconnecting transportation system with adequate rail, riverport, airport, and public transit interface to enhance future economic growth.
  • State and federal laws must provide for adequate development of rail and waterway facilities.
  • The state must have more adequate funding for airports, highways, and public transit.
  • Road funds must be used for their intended purpose — building and maintaining streets, roads, and highways.
  • Cooperating with organizations with common interests to promote relevant and needed transportation improvements.
