What Is Ahead?
- KBT will continue to work with opinion leaders, the media and the General Assembly to protect existing transportation revenues and to get more adequate funding for the state’s airports, highways, and public transit.
- KBT will encourage state and local transportation programs that are planned and implemented to maximize the efficient utilization of available funds for facilities that improve mobility and safety.
- KBT will continue to work with the Transportation Secretary and other groups to point up the value of using private enterprise in providing and maintaining transportation facilities where private enterprise can do a better job and be more cost efficient than government forces.
- KBT will continue to encourage public transit development in both urban and rural areas.
- KBT will continue to work with state and local officials and other opinion leaders to make the transportation system safer for the movement of people and products.
- KBT will continue to work with the Kentucky Congressional Delegation and others to:
- Build understanding and support for an adequately funded surface transportation program with an equitable return of federal highway user fees, including revenues designated for the Highway Trust Fund and Mass Transit Account.
- Get legislation that will provide an appropriate federal share of maintenance and improvement of the National Highway System including projects that need to be completed in Kentucky — Louisville and Northern Kentucky Ohio River Bridges; I-66; and I-69.
- Prevent the future use of transportation trust funds for deficit reduction purposes.
- Encourage national transportation system legislation that will not result in further dispersion of inadequate highway revenues to non-highway purposes.
- Ensure that Kentucky gets its fair share of airport and demonstration and other special funds.
- Get navigation improvements essential to the efficient movement of Kentucky’s barge traffic on the national waterway system.
- KBT will assist in the empowerment of advocates of needed transportation facilities.
